Parkour on Campus

Although it is not yet as popular as it is in Europe, Parkour is really starting to make its way in the US. Here at SFUAD, we already have a couple of traceurs (runners) who take advantage of the campus surroundings to practice this non-competitive sport.

Practitioners of this art form use their bodies and environment to go from one point to another in the quickest, smoothest and most efficient way possible.

William Gallegos and Drew Stahlein started practicing parkour in their home town of Albuquerque. Coming to SFUAD hasnt stopped them from continuing their passion.

“I think its a very healthy and useful lifestyle for many people,” Gallegos says while warming up. “There are no rules, teams or points. It is more of a state of mind and a kind of expression.”

Learning this discipline gives you the ability to overcome mental as well as physical barriers, and for many it is considered more of a philosophy of life rather than an urban sport.
