Battle of the Departments

Santa Fe University of Art and Design offers degrees in many artistic fields, including photography, theater, contemporary music, creative writing, studio arts, digital arts, film and graphic design. Students often debate about how their department is the best on campus and why. In light of this, Jackalope Magazine asked students from each department to tell us why their department is the best.

Dorinda Abeyta says that the Studio Arts department is the best because they get to draw naked people, while Natalie Buckner says it is because they have great, dedicated teachers.

To Mark Westberg, the Theater department is the best because it is not segregated and actors can get a role in any show, regardless of their year.

In Creative Writing, Kim Blacknall says that their department is the best because they get to write about prostitutes. Liz McKean says, however, it is because they have Matt Donavan’s warm soda.

Paige Davis states that the Film School  is the best because they have a great studio, internships and equipment.

Julian Williams says that the Graphic Design department is best because having a degree in graphic design is like saying you’re an expert in relationships. (He says the graphic design majors will understand.)

Colton Liberatore explains that the Contemporary Music department is the best because of the faculty and Conor Handolson argues that it is because they have so much vintage equipment.

To Monica Barahona, the Photography department is the best because they are willing to help everyone.

Ryder Burch argues that the Digital Arts department is the best on campus because they can literally do anything, like make food rain from the sky.

Every department on the SFUAD campus has something that makes it the best to its students. These are just a few answers to the question of what makes each department so special.
