Career Month Begins

April is starting and with it Career Services Month, organized by Joanie Spain, the director of Career Services. And as a kick off, Spain organized the Summer Job Fair that took place on March 25 in the lobby of the Fogelson Library. The organizations present in this event, which offer summer job positions, included: The Museum of International Folk Art, Youth Media Project, SITE Santa Fe, Santa Fe REP Company Bishops Lodge Resort, Santa Fe Council on International Relations, and the Marketing Department of SFUAD.

Most of the positions being offered were paid positions and the ones that were not offer credits for school. What students have to do depend on the requirements and skills that the organizations need.

“We don’t offer paid positions, but the international experiences are great,” Patti Poitras from the Santa Fe Council on International Relations says. “We get groups of people from all over the world, and they love talking to young students, so we have a perfect match.”

Spain has organized workshops, guest speakers that will talk about the right use of social media, show work, write resumes and even personal. “We will be offering different activities were students will be able to learn skills that will help them find on and off campus jobs,” Spain says. “This is just the start of what we are offering.”
