“We just really wanted to have an opportunity to showcase great, college-level student work from students who are here in Santa Fe,” said Levin, SFUAD Creative Writing Department co-chair.

Muse Times Two brings new or unknown poets from across the country to Santa Fe and pairs them with local poets in order to enhance the local and national literary communities. This inaugural poetry contest was made possible by a grant from the Witter Bynner Foundation.

“The contest had a wide range in terms of content and we were just looking for college-level poets who seemed like they knew how to write a really interesting, sophisticated poem,” said Levin.

The winners were: Chantel Mitchell (Santa Fe University of Art and Design), Doug Bootes (Santa Fe Community College), Kateri Menominee (Institute of American Indian Arts) and Joshua Sturgill (St. John’s College). Each winning student will receive $250.

Muse Times Two will be holding a reading by the winners at Collected Works Bookstore on 4 p.m. on April 13.

“I’m nervous and I’m ready. I always get a little bit of performance anxiety, but I’m excited,” said Chantel Mitchell about the upcoming reading.
