Films at The Screen April 4-11 range from Arctic Cowboys to Strangers by Lake

When a play opens on a man’s hospital deathbed there isn’t a transparent opportunity for comedy readily available. In a different work, perhaps, the undeniably grim theme of death would have been spun into sugar by the power of love or given supposedly weighty significance by various characters’ profound reflections on human mortality. But The Lyons, Nicky Silver’s play centering on family dysfunction, which opened on March 27 at the Santa Fe Playhouse and will continue to run through April 13, isn’t a play about people with delusions of idealistic outcomes.

On the evening of March 26, Radical Abacus showcased the talents of electronic soundscape artists Geological Creep, Gossimer, and SFUAD’s own Angelo Harmsworth.

Pride weekend kickstarted with the Colors drag show on March 28. The event had a fantastic turnout, and the crowd was responsive and brought high energy to the performances. The event’s MCs were Sydnie Smith and Darnell Thomas, who assisted in many of the performances.

April’s Career Services Month kicked off last week with a job fair, and continues with guest speakers from all walks of life.

In honor of Pride Week, the SFUAD student group Colors put some pep into the students through a pep rally that was held on the quad on March 27. Colors is a group consisting of SFUAD students who support the LGBTQIA community.

Award-nominees and winners abound at this week’s films showing at The Screen.

“A Show About Pizza” is, indeed, an art show about pizza.

“Longmire” transformed Benildus Hall into a hospital wing for a day—look for it in episode one of the show’s third season.

Facilities and Security Director Peter Romero chose names for three of SFUAD’s baby goats—all suggested by students. But four more baby goats still await monikers.
