Colors Drag Show
Pride weekend kickstarted with the Colors drag show on March 28. The event had a fantastic turnout, and the crowd was responsive and brought high energy to the performances. The event’s MCs were Sydnie Smith and Darnell Thomas, who assisted in many of the performances.
All the kings and queens in the show, the MCs, and a small group of backup dancers performed in the opening act. The first solo contestant was Sarah Spickard, under the alias Sebastian Perez, who opened with the song “If I was a Boy,” which was very well received by the crowd. Mark Westberg/Muffdiver Marcie followed right after Spickard with “I’ve Never Been to Me,” which was a lively performance in which Westberg interacted with the judges. The third performance of “Dance with Somebody,” performed by Malcom Morgan with the stage name CoCo Chanel was high energy and followed by Katie Johnson/Ricky Slick, also with a lively performance and comedic performance of “Stroke Me,” performed with Mark Westberg and Craig Mortensen. The fifth performance was a well-choreographed performance of “Talk Dirty to Me,” performed by Lauryn Alicia and Synphne Sorina and set the stage for a fun mash-up that followed, performed by Amanda Vanlandingham. The seventh performance was “Shores of California,” performed by Craig Mortensen/Dirty Tracy that won the judges hearts. The eighth performance was “Work Bitch,” performed by Cutler Shell with the stage name of Kutrina. The last performance was a wrap up performance performed by Darnell Thomas also known as Kitty Monroe, last year’s queen. In the end, Sarah Spickard and Craig Mortensen won the competition.
Overall, the performances were really entertaining and there was a lot of work that went into the show. The turnout this year was far better than last year’s show, and we can only hope that next year’s will be even better.
