Aatsinki: The Story of Arctic Cowboys

A Year In the Life of Reindeer Herders

Following, with patience, a year in the life of two reindeer herders in Finland, director Jessica Oreck’s documentary teaches that the relationship of man and nature, man and man, and man and technology can be a very different experience in the wilderness. Jeanette Catsoulis of New York Times calls Aatsinki: The Story of Arctic Cowboys a “challenging and mesmerizing documentary” that “captures horror and joy with the same gorgeous dispassion.” Opens Friday.

Strangers by the Lake

Winner of Best Actor, Screenplay and Sound in 2013 Cesars, French Oscars

On the shores of rural France, Frank meets Michel, a handsome but mysterious man, and falls blindly in love with him. Their relationship takes a plunge, however, when Frank and Michel become the prime suspects in a murder. Jonathan Romney from the UK’s Observer says, “however you read it, the film is compelling and audaciously candid in its charge, while an ending that literally leaves us in the dark is one of the most haunting sing-offs in recent cinema.” Opens Friday.
