Pride Week!
Pride Week kicks off today with an open mic this evening in the Forum at 7 p.m. In addition to the open mic, students will be performing skits, plays and poetry. The Screen will also be showing “The Birdcage” tonight at 10 p.m with free pizza. Sponsored by COLORS, Pride week will continue with events happening each day, ending Sunday, April 19.
Friday, April 17 from 6 p.m to 7:30 p.m will be a Drag Show Competition on the Quad featuring the on-campus drag club Androgynicity as well as performers from the Jewel Box Cabaret. There will also be a meet and greet and Q&A with the performers.
PRIDEfest begins Saturday, April 18 at 11 a.m. This event will function similarly to Pride Day last semester with a variety of different events from a Water Balloon Fight to Paint Twister to “Chalk the Walk.” Be prepared to get messy! Local bands, including Jessie Deluxe at 1 p.m and Skinflints and Scoundrels at 2 p.m will be performing all day long. Also on Saturday from 9 p.m to 12 a.m, COLORS will be holding the “Believe the Rainbow, Taste the Rainbow” dance at the DFC. You must have your student ID to get into the dance.
HIV Testing will be available in the library from 12 p.m to 4 p.m on Sunday, April 19th. COLORS has always been very adamant about people getting tested and this event is a great opportunity to find out your status for free. There will also be a Candlelight Vigil from 7:45 p.m to 9:45 p.m on the Quad to remember all the members of the LGBTQIA community lost this year, such as Transgender Woman Leelah Alcorn who killed herself in December.
COLORS has been working on this event for months now and is excited to celebrate that work and the LGBTQIA community. Come join them for a lot of fun, education, and free food!
