The African Drum Ensemble first started when Santa Fe University of Art and Design was called the College of Santa Fe, and was taught by a couple who still live in Santa Fe. Since then there has been a progression of people who have taken on the class, but Fred Simpson—its current instructor—has taught it since the last year of the College of Santa Fe and still teaches it now.

New Mexico School for the Arts performed its spring Jazz Ensemble April 20 in O’Shaughnessy Performance Space. The performance was directed by NMSA faculty Bert Dalton and John Trentacosta. They invited SFUAD Contemporary Music Program Chairman Horace Alexander to perform with them.

SFUAD will be hosting bands, Kodama Trio and Trio Andaluz this weekend for a CD release and show. Jeremy Bleich, a contributing faculty member for the Contemporary Music Department, has his hands in both bands as he writes, produces and plays in the groups.
