Art of Liberation
Freedom by means of education was the theme to this year’s Black History Show: The Art of Liberation. Hosted by Santa Fe University of Art & Design’s Black Student Union in the Forum, this year’s packed show featured a range of phenomenal musical and spoken word performances from students, staff and guests from the community. In addition, there were powerful speeches by Contemporary Music Chair Horace Young, Senior Director of Student Life Laura Nunnelly, who spoke of the importance of equality; and Dr. Cedric Paige, the president of the Santa Fe NAACP Branch, who spoke of the importance and power of education, and its relationship to the struggle for civil rights.
